Hunting and Tradition

After the Dallas Show we start a new season. January is a hot month in Argentina, with temperatures of about 35 C. We have had a few days of rain but luckily, the beginning of the season is going great so far. Plenty of birds are coming to the shooting area in Las Sierras. The roads are in a good state despite the rain.

The abundance of water in our rivers and creeks is good because it makes the birds move around the area.

Our guests are Bruce, Ted, Rick, Delbert and Nathan. They come from Huston, Texas and it’s their first time in Argentina. They’re friends and a great group of people. They are staying in our lodge Plaza Real, located in a great spot for dove hunting. Plaza Real is second to none in terms of facilities and the hunting experience.

We get to the field at lunchtime and Federico, also called Fefe, our master chef, is ready to let us savor a delicious Argentinian asado (BBQ). Before we begin, we offer our guests ice cold Quilmes beer and dove tacos.

After that, we are ready to offer our variety of Benelli and Beretta shotguns.

Our clients prefer a light and fast gun, and for that we have the Benelli Montefeltro cal. 20

In this group, two of our guests have specially asked for an over and under Beretta Silver Pigeon. All of them were satisfied by their gun’s performances.

After a great lunch, we’re ready to begin. Our head guide says well, well, well and we are ready to check the shooting spots.

We see that everything’s going well so our bird boys Emanuel and Tata go for more ammunition. We’re having a fantastic day. By the end of the day, our guests are very thankful to our birdboys for their outstanding work.

The first guest comes to our camp. He is surprised at the amount of birds shot down and flying over his head, too. After a few minutes, the rest of the group comes. They’re all happy with the results. They can’t believe the amoun of birs flying. Sometimes, they even stop shooting just to see them fly! We start our way back to the lodge where they are going to enjoy a few hours of relaxation. We know that there delicious appetizers and our guest’s favorite cocktails are waiting for them.

We went to a different field each day, and in all of them our guests enjoyed their distinctive scenery at a great time of the dove season.

This is a special group because during this time of year a very important folklore and rodeo festival is happening in Jesús María, a town just 20 min. away from our lodge. In this unique festival, the best folklore singers and dancers and the best horse riders compete in the rodeo. This festival has been part of our culture and tradition for more than 50 years and is well known abroad.

Horse and bull rodeo is very popular in Texas, where our guests come from. That’s why we have a VIP place in our festival so that they can have the best views of the show,  and enjoy the best wine and meat from Argentina. Attending this festival is a very interesting experience for our guests since Ted is a rodeo champion himself in Texas and he’s a vet as well, together with Bruce. Our guests were fascinated by the show and they enjoyed the experience very much.

Attending our Doma and Folklore festival is another option for guests coming to Argentina in January. We really hope more and more clients can enjoy our services and our tradition.

     I’ve been a little busy since I got back but had to take time today to share my thoughts on our hunting experience with Pointer Outfitters. I know Rick, Bruce, Ted and Delbert feel the same. Our trip was purchased through the CCA banquet here in Brenham, Tx. I have always wanted to hunt doves in Argentina and have had a handful of friends that have gone multiple times and I have heard their experiences which was always, you got to go just once you won’t believe it! Not knowing anything about Pointer Outfitters prior to purchasing the trip other than visiting your web site. I know their are quite a few outfitters in Argentina that do these type of hunts as I have heard about several from my friends and most of their experiences were very enjoyable and most talked about all the doves which is hard to explain to people unless you witness it yourself.

     Let me say this, that yes there are many outfitters in Argentina and this was my first experience but there is absolutely no way that you could have a Outfitter with better experience than Pointer Outfitters. Pablo, I have been in the retail and restaurant business for 36 and everyone could learn something from your customer service. The guys who coordinate the daily trips, the bird boys (and I hate to call them that so lets say hunter helpers), the chef we had prepare our meals, the lodge staff from front to back and last but not least Miadell what a wonderful person, she and all the staff made the trip with doves or no doves. You should be very proud of the job Miadell and her guys run your business, I just can’t say enough. I feel I have made some lifelong friends that week. Our hunter helpers were Ta Ta and Gabriel. They were all good but these two guys were amazing and so much fun to be with. I will never forget them. The hunt, the food, the lodging was all over the top but it was the PEOPLE at Pointer Outfitters that made the trip. I told a friend the other day that I have been in 5 star Westin hotels and never got treated like that and did not come there to get waited on like that but everyone did so with such pleasure. You just don’t see that much anymore. So I thank you for a lifetime experience that will never be forgotten and I can’t wait to return to Pointer Outfitters.

Generation after Generation

We have reached the last month of the year but our season is not over yet. I arrived at the airport around 1:10 pm on a sunny day with a temperature of 29 degrees, waiting for our friend Mark and his son John.

Once we were with our guests inside the van, we left the airport ready to undertake trip to the shooting zone that is towards the north of the province of Cordoba, well-known as the “tuna zone”, located an hour away from the airport, where the rest of Pointer’s team is waiting for us, ready to have an amazing hunting day.

As usual Gaby (number one) is waiting for us with a tasty Argentine lunch, well known as Asado, that includes tenderloin, matambre (a thin cut from Argentina and Uruguay) with lemon, boneless chicken and chimichurri!

After lunch, we like preparing the hammocks for our friend to relax and take a quick nap before the afternoon hunt.

We are ready to go to the shooting zone. It’s already 3:30 pm and we see a large volume of doves reaching the nesting area.

Our friend Mark visited us for the second time fortunately, and this year he wanted to pass along the experience of dove hunting in Cordoba to his son John.

We double checked that all the shotguns are in great conditions and, once everything was OK and our field assistants were located in the hunting spots, the day started.

In terms of shotguns, our customers were pleased to use our new Benelli Montefeltro 20 cal shotguns. They are our workhorses and the only weapons that carry on like no other the pressure of Cordoba’s high volume hunting. They were really surprised by its comfort when shooting over 2000 thousand rounds a day. They have been shooting 20 gauge ammunition 7, which is one of the best ammunition for the sport of shooting doves. We also use regular ammunition ½ or 7 and 8 and loads of gunpowder in our cartridges are of 25 grams.

Benelli’s Montefeltro shotgun features a slim, graceful forend, which, combined with an anodized, lightweight receiver, keeps the weight minimal and the swing quick.

It has an Inertia-Driven System, which means that the shotgun is clean, reliable, and adjustment-free.We have them available in 12- and 20-gauge, we do not have any with left hand configurations. We like a lot the low-profile rib.

At this time of the year, summer is starting in Argentina, so we have a temperature from 20 to 30 degrees celsius and of course, rainy days, so it is important to have very strategic fields for these months, but that never stops us from providing our clients of a good time!

Once I heard the first shots I decided to go to the sports and see how everything was going up there.

I arrived and I saw that everything was going great. Mark was asking the field assistants for some advice for him and his son, so I told him that it’s very important when you shoot to have a feet relaxed so you are able to move with total freedom to follow the doves, and it’s also very important to have your arms in the right position (lined up) because that will give you a great precision while firing the shotgun .

After three days of pure shots, the faces of Mark and John showed us nothing but satisfaction of being together in Cordoba.

Their numbers were unbelievable; both of them got really great rates, some days it was more than a 1000 doves ! So we congratulate them by making them part of the 1000 Doves Club!

So, great clients with a great crew, leads to a great trip. They were very pleased with our amazing lodge, La Loma, and with their host those days, Juan, who takes great care of every single client we have, making them feel as comfortable as possible.

A Trip of a Lifetime

My phone says it’s time to start a new day. The outside temperature is very warm, which is a prediction for a beautiful day. This time, we have an amazing group of four people, two lovely couples; Gary and Kimber, and Jordan and Kiera.

So, as the day starts, our guests had an early breakfast to start the day the best way possible. They decided to stay at Jesus Maria Deluxe Resort, a place where every guest feels at home.

Once they finished this amazing breakfast, Gary and Jordan prepared everything they needed to go straight to the field, and us, we have our shotguns, cartridges, camping equipment and everything ready for a great day.

Kiera and Kimber, in the other hand, were non hunters, so for them we had prepared many different activities to enjoy their trip in Cordoba.

Talking about our non-hunting activities, we can mention activities from horseback riding to a spa day, going through museum visits, Shopping center visits, wine tasting, and many other things Cordoba has to offer and that you can chose from, depending on your likes.

If you would like to get to know this amazing city, let me tell you a bit of what a City Tour in Cordoba looks like. First we would visit Plaza San Martín & surrounding areas; Cordoba’s central square. Its western side is dominated by the white arcade of the restored Cabildo and close to it there is the architecturally impressive Catedral.

Then, we would continue with the Córdoba’s magestic Manzana Jesuitica. The Jesuit block contains the core buildings of the Jesuit system: the university, the church and residence of the Society of Jesus, and the college. In this area we can also visit some stores or boutiques where you can find our well known leather, nice souvenirs and silver crafts.

After visiting the museums, we are ready to have lunch in a traditional restaurant in the area, preparing ourselves for the one and only Paseo del Buen Pastor and Sacred Coeur Church. There are a couple of hip cafe-bars in the central patio area where you can kick back with an Appletini or two. The attached chapel (which has been desanctified) hosts regular live-music performances to finish a nice afternoon.

We would also go to the city’s best contemporary art museums: The Emilio Caraffa Museum, and Palacio Ferreyra Museum. There you will enjoy paintings, sculptures and a Beaux-Arts mansion designed by French architect Ernest Sanson and built between 1912 and 1916 for Dr. Martín Ferreyra.

Finally, ten blocks away from the Córdoba urban historical shell, we get deep into the renowned Bohemian neighborhood called Güemes to visit Paseo de las Artes (artisan flea market).This area is a meeting place and a hot tourist spot that grows constantly.

So, going back to the hunters now, around 8:30 Gary and Jordan are ready to take the field. This time, we are taking them to a place that is less than 30 minutes away from the lodge. As usual, we are taking them on our comfortable toyotas trucks.

As soon as we arrived, the field assistants are waiting for us. The field is full of doves everywhere and, after five minutes of having started the hunting, I hear the first shot. “Buenoooo” screams the assistant.

From what I can here, they are already having a great time, but now, it’s the time to check if each of our new friends is in a good shooting place.

In terms of shotguns, we like recommending Benelli Montefeltro cal 20 since this are amazing machines that work perfectly for dove shooting. Our guest are very happy about them because the shotguns itself and the cartridges worked very well, and they are happy about the manners of our field assistants and how professional they are, always taking care of every detail.

A couple of hours later, I received the first shooter in the tent. Federico, our chef, is ready to receive him with a glass of wine and a special appetizer, which in this case is a bunch of tasty pigeons prepared as a Taco with a traditional chimichurri sauce or well-known as chimichanga.

After all our guests are at the table, lunchtime started with some fresh pigeon wrapped in bacon onion and peppers, and following, we have some ribs, flank steak, pork, and other meat cuts grilled, and all together making the one and only argentinean Asado, accompanied of course, with Malbec wine.
After lunch, we like preparing the hammocks for a quick nap before the afternoon hunt. Meanwhile, Francisco and Emanuel, the assistants, are checking new positions for the afternoon hunt.

In October, the weather is very good as we are in the spring time, so we have a very pleasant temperature. At 2:30 pm we have the first doves flying, which means it’s time to start.
Our field assistants with each shotgun clean and ready, are already positioned to guide our clients to the shooting area.
After an amazing day of shooting, at 5.45 pm, and after picking up everything they needed, our guest were good to go.
Returning to the lodge, I remember listening to them talking about the memories of the day, happy about every single dove they killed.

Once they arrived to the lodge, the host and their wives were waiting for them to enjoy some appetizers before dinner and, of course, a massage session to ease the shoulders.
Now, knowing that customers are safe in the hands of our chef and staff, I will leave the lodge and prepare everything for another day.

The Best Hunting Experience

A new group came and we are very happy to have them here with us. They arrived in Buenos Aires and decided to spend a night there before coming to Cordoba. After a 45 minutes flight, they arrived in our beautiful city, in which we were waiting with our van to take them to La Loma Lodge, located 50 minutes away from the airport, in north direction.

Once we got to the lodge, Chris, Jason, and Allen, are ready to start the hunting.

At 7.30 am they are woken up by Paola, the lodge manager, telling them that their breakfast is ready. Scrambled eggs, bacon, yogurt, coffee, tea, cereal, everything you need to start the day with energy.

Before leaving to the field, we told them about the zone towards we were going for our hunting day. At this time of the year, we have great fields located only 25 minutes away from La Loma lodge. We prepared our Mercedes Benz truck to make our guests feel as much comfortable as we possibly can.

Arriving to the field, we saw all our staff waiting for us, ready to help our new friends and make them feel at home. Gaby, Fran, and Ema are ready to start the day.

We like recommending our guests to use shotguns like Beretta 400, a new release from Beretta, Benelli Montefeltro cal 20, and Beretta Urika cal 12, which were the most used these past days since those shotguns are perfect for dove shooting.

Our shooting zone on this time of the year shows us the biggest amount of doves around the prickly pears and on other fields that we strategically have, in order to see millions of flying doves.

As usually, our guests have two shotguns each, which are constantly reloaded by our professional field assistants that are always aware in case anyone needs something.

At around 12.30pm it’s time to finish the morning hunt. Some of our new friends had a great morning achieving great numbers, close to their target; the 1.000 doves club !

Now, it’s time to talk about the one and only lunch at the field. Our chef, Fede, has many specialties, but the best ones that he likes preparing at the field, are the doves in red wine, doves with exquisite herbs, and, as a main dish, our traditional Asado accompanied with the best red wine of Argentina; Malbec.

We like bringing to our guest the best thing on the market, and this is not an exception in terms of wineries. Just in case you did not know, let me tell you a little bit more about Argentine wines.

Known for its plump dark fruit flavors and smoky finish, Malbec wine offers a great alternative to higher priced Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. However, there’s more to Malbec than just value. The main fruit flavors in a glass of Argentine Malbec are blackberry, plum and black cherry. The nuanced flavors offer milk chocolate, cocoa powder, violet flowers, leather and, depending on the amount of oak aging, a sweet tobacco finish.

So, after a very special lunch, our customers got very anxious since they are seeing many birds returning to roost. Apparently, I thought, we are going to have a good afternoon with many birds coming to our roosts.

Having a Blast Once Again

Alex’s group arrived in Cordoba a day before coming to hunt with us because they wanted to stay one night at the Sheraton Hotel in Cordoba City and then, the next day at 8am, a truck from our company went to pick them up and take them directly to the field for the morning hunt.

They had time to hunt for around 2 hrs and a half before the Chef called us for lunch.

A few glasses of Argentinean wine, pork, sausages and lots of meat followed by an amazing tiramisu for dessert, separated the morning from the afternoon and after a little nap in the hammocks, Alex, Matt, Tim & Katie went to their respective positions that afternoon , which are never the same as in the morning.

That evening was incredible, according to Alex and Matt, something that had never seen in their lives and it is very difficult to explain; you have to see it to know what it is like.

Once we arrived to the lodge, Alex and Matt had a massage session, so an hour later, they joined us in the living room with Katie and Tim who were taking a few glasses of wine accompanied by delicious salami, cheese and chips.

Half an hour later, at 7.45pm, another truck from the company came to lodge with another excellent group which was supposed to go to the field right after arriving, but their flight was delayed 5 hours so they went directly to the lodge. Federico and I helped to put all their luggage down, show them their rooms and then, once they were feeling a bit more comfortable, at 8.30pm the nine of us got together to have an amazing dinner of pork, vegetables and ice cream as dessert.

The next day we went to hunt up in the hills, about 35 minutes away from the Plaza Real Lodge.That morning the dove flew a little higher that other days due to strong winds, in large quantities, but not close enough as they did on the afternoon. Jay killed more doves than the others that afternoon and, of course, he was the one that used more cartridges. Jay managed to pass the 1000 pigeons with a total of 611 in the morning and 534 afternoon. Les shot all the boxes that had planned for that afternoon in just 35-40 minutes. Alex shared the position with Katie, who was looking very concentrated sticking a lot of pigeons.

On the highest point of the hill, I met Matt and Gaby, his assistant. Since it was the highest point of the mountain, the view was just amazing. Going down the mountain, on the other side, I first found Jay and Ronnie and, about 200 yds diagonally, at the same height, was Corey and Fran. That afternoon began ahead of schedule and with no time to nap out  because we had planned to hunt around 1.15pm, since a clear storm was coming to kick us out the field soon. And so it was. Luckily, all came to end when we were putting our things back inside the truck to return before the water began to stick on the glass and roof of the truck. It was time to leave. And once at the Plaza Real Lodge, we took a shower and again, accompanied by good music, had a few drinks with a funny talks until again, at 8.30pm, the girls at the lodge called us to the table, to enjoy dinner; ham and cheese crepes and chicken with baked potatoes as a main dish – which some ate a second plate- .

 

Once we finished eating, we went to the fire pit to take a last glass of wine accompanied by some cigars and background music.

The next day, the original plan was to go to hunt in the flatlands, but the rain of the previous evening precluded some roads so Federico wanted to go hunting in the mountains again, but, of course, to a different field; because the same field is never used two times in a row except we are talking about an emergency.

On the third day, there was not even one cloud in the sky, and doves, as we are used to, were flying amazingly, even though it was really windy. That afternoon, we were meeting a new group that had just arrived and who were staying in a Lodge that was close to ours (I join them in their third day, after saying goodbye to my new friends, half of them from Dallas and the rest from Mississippi).

So it was Thursday, the fourth day for the guys from Dallas, and the third for the guys from Mississippi. We left the lodge at 8:30 am towards Jesus Maria after a delicious breakfast: coffee, juice, eggs with bacon and some yoghurt. That day we were hunting in the flat lands, and most of the guys liked it a lot because it was more like to what they are used to; watching the dove flying from far away.

The day was amazing, no wind and a lot of sun with some clouds without getting hot. The morning was very good and for lunch and we were 14 people, since a group of 5, who was staying at La Loma Lodge, would be added.

After an incredible lunch and a few glasses of wine, we returned to the field to start hunting in the afternoon. Some were wagered well along the river while others would be on different sections in the middle, some reaching 2-3 meters high. They were finishing the hunt, until finally at 5pm, they all were back in the camp telling anecdotes and enjoying a last glass of wine before returning to the Lodge to get a refreshing shower.

That night, they took their last drinks and smoke their last cigarette around the fire pit, as the next day everything was already arranged to take a group in the morning to Cordoba, while the other was going to hunt one last morning and then return to Cordoba, with first stopping by the lodge to get their things, take a shower and get comfortable to leave.

Those were 5 amazing days, being once again the best part of this job; the friends that you make over time.

Great Beginners

The first day in the van, when I met Patt and Jason, they told me it was their first time dove shooting so I said to them that they are in the best place to learn and practice, always, of course, having fun!

“Yeah yeah, so we do then; I’ll meet you at the entrance of the field so I do not get in there with my car.- Great J, I’ll call you once the clients arrive in Cordoba’s airport.- Ok, Thanks David.”

That morning I had planned to be at the office in the morning and then meet David at the field entrance, before climbing to the hills, because my car is a little lower than the Van we use to transport groups of more than 3 people.

It was 1.25 pm when I reached the entrance to the field, just a few meters from the main route.

And while waiting I thought, why not? It doesn’t seem to be in bad conditions; I’ll climb. So, the first thing I did was to call David to let him know, otherwise, he would be waiting for me without knowing that I’m already at the field.

So it was then when I went up and left the car just 500 yds from where the camp was. About 15 minutes later David came, went up to the van and introduced me with the group. This time we had visitors from North Carolina: Jeffery, Mike, Patrick, and Jason.

Once in the camp, Filo, our chef,  was waiting for us with a delicious lunch with roast, chorizo (Argentinean Sausage), chicken and pork. I remember standing Jason finished eating and I was tired of sitting after 2 flights (although I also was anxious to meet the famous pigeons of Cordoba). AC-DC still sounded when after a quick lunch our friends started changing, leaving traveling clothes inside the van, in their respective bags. The real purpose of his trip will now begin: Hunting, drinking and having a great time.

That afternoon Jeffrey Canarian was on one side of the mountain, while the rest would be more ventured into the mountains, being Mike the one at the highest position.

Jason was the first to finish his 20 boxes and Santiago, his field assistant, offered to open another case but, since it was Jason’s first time dove shooting, he had had enough by that afternoon (other than the second day that he would shoot more than 45 boxes).

Then I went to Emmanuel and said to him “Ema, this is Patt, and it is his first time dove shooting… Can you guide him a little please?” and so he said “yes, of course, do not worry J, I will help him” (Ema was going to be Patt’s assistant).

So it was; he took 7 or 10 boxes for Patt to start shooting as if he had already done it several times. That afternoon Patt throw 20 boxes killing a total of 201 pigeons !! Let me tell you something because watching how happy he was is the most rewarding thing about this job: to see our guests being really happy having a great time with his friends. Patt surprised us all, specially the rest of the group, because of the skills he had and how fast he was learning and shooting as he was doing (the second day, he achieved a total of 434 pigeons between morning and afternoon).

The first day in the van, when I met Patt and Jason, they told me it was their first time dove shooting so I said to them that they are in the best place to learn and practice: you would see (just for the record, if we only take what Patt killed on the second day, it will take you 29 full days on the hunting season in the US to achieve what he did in just one day in Cordoba!) That evening Jason, Mike and Patt returned in the Van with David, while Jeffrey wanted to go with me since that day I had gone with my car.
We chatted for a long time but when Jeff heard on the background the first chords of Daze and Confused, he turned up the volume to the maximum and neither of us could resist it; we started screaming trying to follow the lyrics.
I still remember the face of Jeff surprised when we entered the car to the lodge. We joined the rest of the group and they were all saying thanks appreciating the excellent afternoon they had, because they had found everything above expectations. I remember the words of Jeff in the car: What is this man?, and I replied “This is your lodge, we are gonna stay here, this is gonna be your home for the next few days! And he could not believe his eyes! Too much ! 
The girls at the lodge were waiting for us with some juice and wet towels and after a bite, drinks and a great dinner with more and more drinks in the living room, we went to get some rest.

On the next day, we had breakfast at 8 am, leaving to the field at 9 (although we expected to do it at 8:30, it was not easy to get them ready for that time). We all went up to the same mountain, but it was a different field. This time Chanqui, the photographer, came with us to document the day with photos and video. In the morning, we hunt near the camp, next to a small lake, where pigeons often go to drink water.
Even though we know that the mornings are way different than the afternoons, they shot a total of about 65 boxes, being Jason the one that did the most with a total of 20.
The dove was flying until late lunch. In fact, when the chef called us to eat, we were still hunting in place. They were shooting two guys together, but we were all there, putting together skills and waiting for lunch since we were just about 30 yds to the camp.
Meat, meat ,and more meat with pears in red wine as dessert. Oh no, that’s fruit, no thanks. Just try it. Pears in wine with cream, ate everything, left nothing.
Jason opted for a nap in the hammock while the rest decided to lay on the grass; Jeffrey was in charge of the music. I could see that the boys had already climbed to prepare the hunting positions, so I calculated that we would climb in about 5 or 10 minutes.

Once in the hunting positions, I was surprised of how the wind stopped blowing because that morning had been very windy. Sunny but windy. Actually, the afternoon was very pleasant; a little breeze, not even wind.
Patt and Jeffrey were the last to finish that afternoon and I could still see the dove flying on posts while we were in the Van toward the Lodge. Patrick was impressedwith the dish that night: a tasty lasagna with bolognese sauce.

The next afternoon, Jason and Patt finished the day with the same number! yes, 366 doves each! Jason finished first while Patt was about 6 pigeons to reach him and he still had 10 or 11 cartridges. Unhurriedly, waiting for that best doves, he saw the ones that fit to reach Jason, and knowing that he had 2 chances to catch them, he saw a dove coming in front of him on the distance he liked and missed the first, but then, as soon as he saw the shotgun giving a little more swing and achieving impact with his last round, he reached Jason with 366 pigeons in the same amount of boxes: 30!
That evening all the boys returned to the lodge in order to share the last great night together. 
Good music, drinks, chess, backgammon and more drinks.
I’m gonna miss this guys, we had a hell of a time those days!

Van Dorn Ready to kill

January was a strong month for all of us at Pointer, and having our amazing friends Erik, Cody, Steven and Shannon from Texas with us was a cool experience that helped to make it all amazing.

This group had flown from Huston on the great and comfortable United Airlines #819 from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) Gate E20 to Ministro Pistarini International Airport (SAEZ / EZE), Terminal A (there is another great connection with Copa through Panama or you can even make it through Santiago, in Chile).

United is a major American airline headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It is the world’s largest airline when measured by number of destinations served. It is also a founding member of Star Alliance, the world’s first and largest global airline alliance. Regional service is operated by independent carriers under the brand name United Express.

IMG_GR_testimonials1455619279Now, our clients are already in Argentina, staying at the Plaza Real Lodge in Villa del Totoral, in the province of Córdoba, and getting ready to start the day.

After having a great and good tasting breakfast at 7.30 am, we leave in our Mercedes- Benz Sprinter van to the field located 25 minutes away from the lodge.

As we get to the field, our whole field staff is waiting for us to welcome our guests on their first time in Argentina. The entire group is completely shocked about the great number of birds on Tuna Roost. Luckily, doves are really active in the afternoons.

IMG_GR_testimonials1455619178Big E is a great guy that promises that he will shoot over 1000 birds every day. When you see Big E for the first time you might mistake him for a bodyguard; he is huge! With him, we have Cody and his amazing and unique hair cut. Actually, I think I had never seen something like that before so…  Good for you Cody! You have a very original and handsome look. Then there is Shannon. He is the spirit, like the life of the party. He is always joking and laughing. We had so much fun with him; and we also have Steve, who is quieter, but when he takes a drink, he gets talkative and ironic, but with a great sense of humor.

We must admit that we felt like, with 20 hunters in the field, these guys just melted our shotguns. They have been shooting all the birds in the sky. We can bet it is not going to be their last time!

We also have machines like CAL 20 BENELLI MONTEFELTRO, CAL 20 BENELLI M1 and CAL 12 BERETTA A300, very good taken when dove hunting since our clients were amazed for its comfortable way of working after shooting over two thousand shots each day.

By now, they have been shooting 20 gauges ammunition 7, which is one of the best supplies for this dove hunting sport (we also regularly use 7 and ½ or 8 supplies, and the powder charges in our cartridges is 25 grams).

As mentioned, we enjoyed Trapiche Origen Malbec and Don David Malbec during the days of this group in Córdoba because we always like offering our guests some of the best wines from Trapiche.

Trapiche Winery, set amidst vineyards and located in Maipú, Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes, this Florentine style building from 1912 is an icon of Mendoza’s wine architecture. Now, let’s talk about Trapiche origenes Malbec. It has this intense red color with some violet hues. You can smell red berries, plum, cherry and chocolate all concentrated. It feels like a juicy mouth with a bit of cinnamon, vanilla and toasted bread with plum jam.

While the origin of this popular brunch cocktail is debatable, the Bloody Mary’s staying power leaves no question. A classic bloody Mary is made with vodka, tomato juice, lemon, spices and seasonings. Its creation is often credited to barman Fernand Petiot, who supposedly invented the combination of vodka and tomato juice at Harry’s Bar in Paris in 1921 and refined the recipe in New York in the 1930s, adding lemon, Worcestershire sauce and black and cayenne pepper. This is a vodka-soaked nutritional breakfast and hangover cure all in one. What else can you ask for?

Without further words, let me tell you that, by the end of the day, Erik Van Dorn had made a record using 3 Beretta 400 (which worked perfectly), and shot 3061 doves in 4 Hours and 35 minutes, which was the 90% of that afternoon. He had shot 8621 doves in a couple of days! Amazing! Great shot! (86% was his percentage). We will send you a report in the next few days.
