Horseback riding

Horseback riding in Argentina plays a major role in Argentine history, the economy and folklore. It been the favourite way of getting around for ages and horseback riding is still the easiest way to get around on an estancia (ranch).

Along with these traditions, the Argentines have created their own subculture, which includes both breeding of horses and riding. It is no wonder that Argentina has the best polo players in the world and hosts some beautiful venues for horseback riding.

There are many interesting facts about the fantastic Argentinean horses.  Since the time they were brought from Europe during the Spanish conquests horses have played a major role in the people and culture of Argentina.

horse 2The horse is an essential part of cow herding by gauchos on the estancias. The most common breed of horse is the Criollo, the national horse of Argentina. The Criollo is a hardy horse with a brawny and strong body with broad chest and well-sprung ribs. They are tractable, intelligent, willing and sensible; the perfect horse on your perfect Argentinean horse riding journey.

A day at Ongamira Valley

horse 4A beautiful farm house, located in the heart of the Ongamira valley in the province of Córdoba, is waiting for you. There you will enjoy a delightful day riding horses. Surrounded by an extraordinary 2,300 hectare (5,689 acres) of natural environment, this place is ideal for those who want to relax and enjoy the view.  Whether horse- riding, walking or simply relaxing and enjoying the landscape from a quiet perch, the energy of the place transforms and rejuvenates the body and soul. You can choose the perfect program for you. There are short and easy ridies with a very low level of difficulty. This allows riders to get used to the horses to prepare for future longer rides. There are longer and more difficult rides for people with more experience with horses. There are also longer rides with medium-low difficulty for amateurs.

Another great option is horse riding at night. The journey takes about three hours under the light of the moon. Ongamira is an amazing mix of nature and comfort that makes guests feel like home the moment they arrive. You will enjoy an amazing and unforgettable experience.

A sample itinerary for your horseback riding day

horse 7.jpgWe leave the lodge about 8 -8.30 am. We then have a one hour drive on a very scenic road going up to the highlands of Cordoba where you will find beautiful areas for sightseeing and photography. Once we get to the riding lodge the manager and the horse riding guides will meet us. Then we will be introduced to the horses. Now we are ready to start the horse riding trip between hills, rocks, trees and pampas. After this trip we go back to the lodge for lunch time. We will enjoy some of the delicious dishes that our professional chef makes. Great food accompanied by exceptional red wine.

After lunch we take a break in this beautiful Estancia with an English style and get ready for another two hours of horse riding. At about 5.30 we go back to the Estancia where we prepared to return to the lodge. At the lodge the girls will be waiting for us with a couple of drinks and reception.

Lots of doves with friends

In the same week we have received at La Loma Lodge our great friend Larry Ramming and David Wampler. They have arrived to Cordoba the last 6th july and they have also shared a great time with Marvin Gros and his group.

It is great to see old friends again, especially because Larry had gone through a very delicate medical issue. Thanks God he is doing great! We have been at La Loma Lodge and Plaza Real Lodge.

La Loma is a beautiful traditional Estancia built in 1908 by one of the wealthiest families in Argentina. The lodge is located about one hour to the north of Cordoba International Airport, in the town of Totoral. It is situated next to the biggest dove roost in Argentina, the rides to the fields are a convenient 10 to 40 minutes. La Loma’s staff, the delicious Argentine meals, and copious amounts of doves combine to make this a very memorable dove-shooting trip._MG_0102-(1)

Plaza Real is one of the best options for dove hunting in Argentina. It is located in the province of Cordoba, in the center of Argentina, 50 miles (100 km) north of Cordoba’s International Airport. The driving time from the airport to the lodge is also one hour. Right in the main capital of dove hunting in South America_MG_0313-(1)Srgb_color

With this group we have hunted in the Macha Valley, that means we are back in the hills. We have been especially at La Tuna area, in our Correa brother’s farm. Doves were amazing. What can I say about dove hunting with Pointer Outfitters that you haven’t hear before? Just that, at the end of the morning, birds will slow down, but afternoons were so crazy and ridiculously full of birds, that we were taking pictures!_MG_0065

Our chef Federico did an amazing job, as always,  and we enjoyed great food in the field! Weather was amazing, and like all winters in Cordoba there were no rains.

David and Blake Wampler had hunted with us for 4 days, but in the middle we have done an amazing horse riding for a complete day at Ongamira area. That same day they also were at Pablo Aguilo’s house for a meal with the famous photographer Marcos Furer, who had shown us the great last works he had been doing._MG_0003Srgb_color

Happy hunts. Sorry to all our friends, but this is a short report because we would like you to enjoy our friends testimonials.-

We just returned from a wonderful trip and the Pointer Wingshooting Team as always, handled every detail to perfect expectation. I have been hunting with Pablo over ten years and intend to continue every chance I get (or can make lol).

We treasure the time together, the experience (Pablo handled everything including a few great days in Buenos Aires), the entire Pointer and Las Lomas team typify why I love Argentina, good friends all.

Volume shooting – fantastic and always perfectly organized. Bird count? Just how hard do you want to push – trip of a life’s dream – now I want to come back soon. Mrs Ramming tells me I have a return “kitchen pass” as soon as she and I return from Hawaii (?) – so – hope to see you before the end of the year. By the way Cuba very tempting lol.

Best Regards,

Larry Ramming

Vines of Mendoza

They say it started with a bold vision and a crazy dream.

In 2005, Pablo Gimenez Riili and Michael Evans recognized the world-class potential of Mendoza’s Uco Valley and invested in 250 acres of land. Their purpose: to bring the dream of owning a vineyard and making your very own premium quality wine to reality. The Vines of Mendoza has since sold Private Vineyards to more than 130 owners from around the globe, expanded the property to 1,500 acres and established the highest quality winemaking enterprise in the region. Each step of the way has been a labor of love and we enjoy nothing more than to share the fruits of our labor with yovines2u. We welcome visitors to our Mendoza City and Uco Valley Tasting Rooms where we showcase the best of Argentine boutique wines, including our own Recuerdo brand.

A place not easily found, The Vines of Mendoza is even harder to leave. Our guests feel its magnetic pull. To share the best of Mendoza with even more travelers from around the world, we’ve created The Vines Resort & Spa. Offering laid-back luxury at the base of the majestic Andes Mountains, it’s the ultimate retreat for wine lovers and outdoor adventurers. We believe in treating guests like old friends and go out of our way to make sure you experience the very best of our region.

The perfect blend of rustic elegance and modern comfort, the Resort features spacious private Villas, a luxurious Spa, world-class service, and breathtaking views of the Andes at every turn. Legendary Argentine chef Francis Mallmann serves up inspired regional fare and traditional asado feasts at our signature restaurant, Siete Fuegos.
slideshow-3In our vineyards, you can harvest grapes or make your own custom wine, working side-by-side with world-renowned consultant winemaker Santiago Achával. As our guest, you may find yourself exploring the rugged countryside by horseback, saluting 300 days of sunshine in a yoga class, taking a fly fishing excursion on the Rio Mendoza, stargazing from your private deck, or even blending your own Malbec. Along the way, we’ll share the warmth and magic of Argentina with you like only a local can.

Stop by and find out why the New York Times recently called The Vines of Mendoza’s Tasting Room a best first stop for learning about Mendoza and its wines. It is the only place in Mendoza city where wine enthusiasts can enjoy flights and by-the-glass tastings of the 100 very best Argentine wines; it’s like visiting 50 of the best Argentine boutique wineries without leaving the city. We’ve brought together the best of the region for you.

Each tasting includes a thorough and personal education about of the wines from our Wine Specialists. If you’d like to get a bit more hands-on and make wine with us, you can blend your own wine with one of our experts in our state-of-the-art blending lab, and even take the bottle with you to share to your friends.

Conde Nast Hot List 2014 — “You can even play winemaker by purchasing a plot of land on-site whose cultivation is overseen by the resort’s agronomist. What better excuse to keep coming back?”

Our sons senior trip

This vacation started off as a gift for my youngest sons senior trip. It was a unanimous choice for our entire family to go to Argentina with Pointer Outfitters. And what a great choice we made!!!!

More Info

Pablo Aguilo is a hands on leader with special attention to details in every aspect of the Pointer Wing Shooting experience. From the moment we were picked up from the airport, to the time of boarding our flight to come home, our trip was filled with outstanding memories.

When we arrived at our lodge well past midnight Argentinian time, Pablo was there to welcome us with a hospitable smile, kind conversation of the next days events along with light appetizers and drinks. His warm outgoing personality is contagious with all of his staff as we experienced this throughout the week.IMG_GR_testimonials1422289306

Martin, Federico, Dimas, they all spoiled us with fabulous meals in very comfortable outdoor settings. Pablos field assistants were extremely attentive before, during, and after the shooting to make sure we were all well tended to. And of course the nap in the hammocks was always a welcome spot after lunch so we could rest up for the afternoon hunt.IMG_GR_testimonials1422289564

After 2 days of continuous shooting we took a break from the shot guns for a horseback riding trip in the Argentinian mountains. This gave us a relaxing time to enjoy a different setting and experience a working Estancia. Pablo?s connection with the horse back riding excursion was the same top caliber of the generous reception that all of Pablos team pours out to their guests. The gouchos (cowboys ), were just as kind and helpful and made our day trip exceptional. The refurbished Estancia, stables, LUNCH, and horseback rides were outstanding.

The following day we were eager to pound our shoulders into submission once again. Every hunt was a different venue throughout the week and unique in presenting every shot possible for wing shooting. There was never a hunt that you were not met with hundred?s of birds waiting to play the game with you.IMG_GR_testimonials1422291516

On our departure, our trip did not end there. Pablo had Cindy Peterson meet us in Cordoba for a small shopping trip in town and she politely escorted us to the airport to help us with customs, baggage, etc for us non spanish speakers. Pablo has a keen sense of thoroughness and attention to every detail you can imagine.

This was a trip our family will remember forever. And most definitely an incredible memory of a lifetime for a high school senior for his graduation gift.

Cheers Pablo!

The Wynns.
